BETTY BALDWIN

DIRECTOR EMERITUS

Betty has been a member of Southern Accord Chorus since 1993 when the chorus had its very first rehearsal and she was there when the chorus received its charter with Sweet Adelines International in 1998. She began as assistant director and took over as director for the chorus in 1999.  She took Southern Accord Chorus to their second ever contest in 2000 and never looked back.

Under Betty’s Directorship, Southern Accord Chorus has continued to build their vocal skills and, to date, the chorus has achieved an award for Most Improved Chorus, Third Place and Second Place Small Chorus medals in Region 26 Competition.

Betty’s love of music and harmony started with childhood piano lessons, and later, playing trombone in a local high school marching band. For many years she sang in a church choir, and is currently serving her local church as organist and choir director.

Betty has taken advantage of the many opportunities offered by our organization to learn and advance her skills as a singer and as a director. She travels to all the Region 26 Educational events, and most often, attends Sweet Adeline International Educational summer workshops. In 2018, Betty, along with her two Assistant Directors, attended Harmony College Northwest, a workshop organized by Barbershop Harmony Society.

In 2005, Betty completed the Director Certification Program through Sweet Adelines International and now adds “Certified Director” behind her name, and in 2018, she proudly received the level of “Harmony 500” director.

In June 2020 Betty officially retired to the risers. Southern Accord Chorus is very fortunate to have had a very talented Musical Director leading us every week. Betty is dedicated, motivated and supportive.
